Charter Schools
Charter schools are publicly funded and free to all students who attend. As public schools, charters serve children regardless of family income, gender, race or religion. Charter schools are open to all children who are eligible to attend district public schools. Admission is lottery based. For more information on our school lottery see the Enrollment page.
Charter schools receive funding from the federal, state and local level based on the number of children that attend the school. In North Carolina, a charter school is authorized by the State Board of Education. They are operated by an independent, non-profit board of directors and are required to meet financial and academic standards set forth by the State Board of Education. For more information on our board of directors see Our Board page.
